Sarah and Tarah's Race Reports - Rounds 1 and 2

Date: 6/5/2007 11:00:00 AM

In the first moto, Tarah started near the front, and by the fourth lap, caught up to second. She gave chase to the leader for the entire moto, but was unable to get close enough to challenge her. Sarah Whitmore got a decent start, but had a run-in with another rider on lap 2, dropping her back to 14th place. However, Sarah rode a strong race on her Yamaha and got all the way up to 5th in the first moto.

In Moto 2 Tarah got the holeshot and was chased by Jessica Patterson. They stayed in this position and had a great race until late in the race when Patterson got around Tarah for the lead. Tarah finished the second moto with another 2nd place finish and 2nd overall. Tarah said, “I am just glad to get out of this race in the points. For the past two years, I have been hurt leading up to the series, and am finally healthy. I am looking forward to the entire series aboard my Yamaha and winning some races.” Sarah had to come from way back in the pack and had to make up a lot of ground, due to a bad start. Sarah said, “I feel like I could’ve ridden better than I did, but I had the first race jitters. My bike is great, and I feel really fit. I am looking forward to the remainder of the races, and Loretta Lynn’s."

The Second round of the WMA was held at the Hangtown MX National, Saturday, May 19th. The first moto was held earlier than normal on a fresh track, prior to the AMA Pro Racing. Sarah Whitmore got the holeshot on her Yamaha, followed by Patterson and Tarah. Yamaha’s Tarah Gieger gave chase to Patterson but could not make up time. Ultimately, Tarah crashed and salvaged a 6th in the first moto. Sarah moved up to 3rd in the first moto.

The second moto was a different beast altogether, as it was held following the AMA Pro Timed Qualifiers and LCQ at the end of the day. This time Sarah started out in second. Whitmore remained in 2nd until the sixth lap where she crashed on a braking bump just after being passed by Tarah Gieger, who came back from a poor start. Ultimately, Sarah would not finish the second moto, as she could not get her bike fired up. Tarah, however, came from back in the pack and finished second. Tarah would get third overall.
