San Carlos, Calif. - - Professional racer, Todd Welling, has won 5 World Championships, National Championships and broken the Offshore Power Boating World Speed Record on multiple occasions. After 15 years of piercing through crashing ocean waves at over 150 mph, Welling, of San Carlos, CA. is turning to more solid ground, strapping into the cockpit of a brand new Class 1 Off-Road car. Welling is joined by fellow Offshore racing champion, Greg “Boomer” Hukari, who has extensive experience and knowledge of the Off-Road racing industry.
Boomer's Off-Road passion was born in 1982 after the legendary Vessels family bought his family's ranch in Southern California. Later in life, Hukari would work with second generation Off-Road racer, Scoop Vessels, in his shop. "I learned a lot about Off-Road racing from the best. I'll be using that knowledge along with what I've learned after years of racing snowmobiles, go-carts and Offshore boats, to make sure we have the same success in Baja as we have on the water," says Hukari. Welling and Hukari of Team Spectrum, placed their skills to the ultimate challenge in 2006 during their inaugural race, entering their car in the sportsman class during the famed Baja 1000.

The desert classic is the oldest, most well known of all desert races. For any driver, completing the Baja 1000 is the single most appealing accomplishment. Team Spectrum captured first place in their class, quickly dismissing any doubt about their future Off-Road success. Welling's accolades are impressive and already he is tearing up the dirt road with his Win-or-die
attitude.
"The sportsman class was a great entry level class, now we are moving right into Class-1 and building a brand new, Ilmor Viper car for the 2007 season," Says Welling. His new Class 1 Ilmor V-10 powered car will showcase advanced technology, elite equipment and a professional crew. He is regarded as an expert in several industries and serves as a product design and equipment testing agent for large corporations such as: Mercury and Douglas Marine. He works side by side with engineers to design and implement racing components, which are later introduced to markets for mainstream use.
"Welling is on top of his class with an arsenal demanding serious attention from press, fans and industry leaders. He adds value to corporate partners through his skills as a racer, his market knowledge and winning attitude,” According to Peter Hledin, president of Douglas Marine Corporation. Welling and Hukari are no strangers to developing successful and marketable sports teams. Welling's Offshore team premiered in its class, gracing the cover of newspapers, magazines, cable television and appearing in recent Hollywood blockbusters. This year, Spectrum Off-Road racing will compete in select races and the Baja 1000 for '07. In 2008, the team will compete in a full SCORE International Desert Series. |
